Week of 1/28/19 Monday - Go over test. Start taking notes on the videos at the bottom of this page. Cool resource for biomes Group biome assignment. Create a poster for a class gallery walk. Due Wednesday. Do your best work.
NO SCHOOL TUESDAY Wednesday - Finish and put up posters. AP REGISTRATION
Thursday - Start to take notes on the other biomes. HERE is the world biomes coloring page some of you did. We did the Owl Pellet lab.
Friday - Finish taking notes. You brainstormed the characteristics of biomes. Changing Ecosystems Activity - what are some things that can affect the biodiversity of an area? What happens when a species is removed or introduced to an area?
Here is a ppt that goes over some of the material we will cover. Not necessary to look at unless you want additional resources.
Week of 2/4/19 WATCH ALL THE VIDEOS!!!! Monday - You finished the lab and we went over the basics of it including the Ecological Rule of Thumb, Trophic Levels, and Food Webs. We also learned about HIPPCO. Habitat Loss, Invasive Species, Pollution, Human Population, Climate Change and Overharvesting. We started looking at biogeochemical cycle diagrams. You will draw the 5 cycles - water, carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus. You are responsible for knowing them. HERE is a note sheet of the cycles. Make it a goal to know all 5 by Friday.
Tuesday - Gave you time to review biomes and cycles. Went over some energy basics of this ppt and the carbon cycle including talking about carbon sinks. We watched the Cane Toad Video and discussed it. It is a very cheesy video but does a great job of showing impact of an invasive species. Make sure you are learning your biomes and cycles! Watch the notes videos!!!
Wednesday - Recap of the week: What is a trophic level? Make an energy/trophic pyramid. How much energy moves from one level to the next? Where does the rest go? We also went over the nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur cycles. Play the nitrogen cycle game. Review cycles by drawing them all out by memory. Hopefully you know at least two or three of them already. Go over more of the ppt- energy, species interactions, biomes. Quizletfor species interactions
Friday - Wrap it all up. Do some calculations for biomass and trophic levels. HERE is the key to the worksheet. What is Eutrophication? Climate diagram practice. HERE is the worksheet and key.
Week of 2/11/19 Monday - Review everything. Play Quizizz See below for list of topics on test. Tuesday - Unit 2 Test
Wednesday - Start Populations: What is your Ecological Footprint? Here is another footprint calculator. Here is a link to an article that talks about us using up more natural resources than can be made. Here is a link to a world map with the footprints for each country. Make sure you record the following in your lab notebook for notebook check: Your number of Earths, the lowest number you could get and what was different - what lowers it, and the highest number and what factors made it go higher. Start talking about the basics of population dynamics. HW Watch Population Ecology and Human Population Dynamics
Thursday - We started working on the Population Math Worksheet. You must know the formulas for the test. HERE are the keys. Start the Population Lab You will not finish the lab today.
Friday - Finish the population labs from yesterday. Answer the questions for ALL 3 on the answer packet. Watch and take notes on Human Population Size. ENJOY THE BREAK!!! You need to know: Review Unit 2 in the book, chapters 3-5 Biomes - General characteristics, flora, fauna, location, soil, climate for each of the 8 we did in class Basics of what you learned in the owl pellet lab, food chains, food webs, pyramids, biomass, energy, ecological rule of thumb, trophic levels How species interact Endangered, Invasive, Keystone Species All 5 Biogeochemical Cycles Biodiversity and how it can be affected (HIPPCO and the lab we did) What causes eutrophication? What is the result? Review Unit 1 - all tests are cumulative meaning some questions will be from previous topics. All videos and activities are fair game
