Week of 2/28/22 Watch the Blood videos at the bottom of the page if you miss class or need more clarification. If you attend class daily, no need to watch unless you find you need them. HEREis the ppt for all of this unit. For some reason if you open this on your phone it may not show the info on Landsteiner - the scientist who discovered blood types.
Monday - We will start blood by discussing Blood Typing and do a quick lab. HERE is a good virtual lab if you are at home. Tuesday - Blood spatter lab - Height and surfaces HERE are the data sheets. If you are doing this at home, you need a liquid that you can see when it drops on paper and other surfaces. It does not have to be red. Watered down paint, watered down tomato sauce, punch, chocolate milk can all work. You also need a ruler that measures in cm. HERE is a ruler you can print out. For those of you at home, see the video below of me explaining how to do the labs. Wednesday and Thursday - More Blood Labs including angles. Friday - Finish Blood Labs by playing around with various scenarios then maybe watch a Crime 360 Final Call If you are absent, use some liquid from your home that you can see on paper and/or concrete and walk while dripping blood. Then run while dripping. How do they compare? How can you tell directionality (which way was the person moving)? We will also play around with the other patterns mentioned in the ppt like skeletonization, arterial spray, and voids. We will play with wipes (blood is on the surface and wiped through) vs swipes (blood is on an object that swipes the surface leaving blood behind). We will also look at passive blood drops vs blood that was projected at different velocities. Monday we will wrap it all up.
Week of 3/7/22 Monday - Wrap up Blood Spatter and debrief about all labs. We will go through some of the ppt and look at stringing and see how luminol works. Tuesday - Discuss DNA evidence - same ppt from yesterday continued through a Nearpod activity. Wednesday - Wrap it all up and review HERE is a review sheet. Thursday - Discuss Serial Killer Project and watch Criminal Minds. Friday - Unit 3 Test
Here's a video going through the labs if you will need to do it from home.
